Enjoy yourself … it’s later than you think!
Well another year has flown by with lightening speed and, as we look forward to 2020, I would like to take this opportunity of wishing all Guild members, new and old, a very merry Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous new year.
I am tremendously proud to be your President and I very much enjoy reading all the news in my TimePiece – it gives me the opportunity to catch up on what’s happening at the Guild as it does such a great job of promoting horology to all age groups and supporting existing working clock and watch makers.
I also greatly enjoy reading the illuminating articles supplied by our members. As I’ve said before I, too, work with my hands (albeit in a slightly different way) and I’m always in awe of the skills and dexterity shown by our members, who not only create beautiful new timepieces, but also keep existing clocks and watches alive, with skilled restorations and servicing, ensuring they can be enjoyed by many, for many years to come.
I have had an enjoyable and busy year, touring with my band and making radio and television shows. I sometimes wonder how many times a year I look at my watch or a clock. In the morning to check the time, on stage, or when setting out on a journey. Or even, unconcerned with the time, in a dull meeting taking an earnest glance at the boardroom clock prior to tapping my watch and announcing ‘Oh dear is that the time? I fear I really must be getting along!’ On all of these occasions, for a brief moment, the Guild and its members are fondly in my thoughts.
So here’s to the next year… and remember, in the words of a very special song, which is usually the closing number at my concerts, don’t forget to …
Enjoy yourself – it’s later than you think…
